Manual Handling of Children (special needs - 1 day)
Aims:
To train participants in manual handling of Children.
Objectives:
- Examine principles of lifting and handling
- Look at methods of safe manual handling of children with special needs
- Examine legal requirements
- Explore risk assessments
- Practice and demonstrate safe lifting techniques of children with a range of equipment
Target Audience:
This course is for candidates who are involved in the lifting, handling and moving of children ( including special needs) in their work roles.

- Safe lifting methods
- Risk assessments
- Protection from injury
- Structure of the spine
- Use of aids and equipment
- Using Hoist and slide sheets
- Moving people- safety considerations
- Wheelchairs and toileting
Commentary:
The course covers basic lifting and handling of children, and includes the use of slide sheets, hoists and lifting belts. It also looks at supporting children with special needs in a mainstream setting.
