Manual Handling of Children (special needs - 1 day)

Aims:

To train participants in manual handling of Children.

Objectives:

  • Examine principles of lifting and handling
  • Look at methods of safe manual handling of children with special needs
  • Examine legal requirements
  • Explore risk assessments
  • Practice and demonstrate safe lifting techniques of children with a range of equipment

Target Audience:

This course is for candidates who are involved in the lifting, handling and moving of children ( including special needs) in their work roles.

  • Safe lifting methods
  • Risk assessments
  • Protection from injury
  • Structure of the spine
  • Use of aids and equipment
  • Using Hoist and slide sheets
  • Moving people- safety considerations
  • Wheelchairs and toileting

Commentary:

The course covers basic lifting and handling of children, and includes the use of slide sheets, hoists and lifting belts. It also looks at supporting children with special needs in a mainstream setting.
